"I joined UTC in the 2020/2021 academic year and the prospect of helping create and deliver a career-focused curriculum to make learning link to the workplace really appealed to me. I've taught in 'regular' schools for almost 15 years before working at Doncaster UTC and I really wanted to be a part of a different model of education.  Since joining, I've seen countless encounters for our learners with real world employers and I've seen the impact that this has had on not only day-to-day motivation but also the potential for social mobility amongst some of our most vulnerable students. Completely different to how learning is delivered in the other schools I've worked in.  Linking students with employers and teaching skills with a direct link to the workplace can really light up young minds and switch them on to what they're doing and why they are doing it.  There is also an amazing pastoral team at UTC and I've been impressed with the levels of care and personalised support that students across the age ranges receive and have access to."

"I started my UTC journey when the school opened (in the middle of the pandemic, in a building that wasn’t our own) and from the get-go it has been a fast-paced adventure! I knew Mr Rawson from my previous school – so I knew his expectations – to create the best UTC in the country.

I started my time at Doncaster UTC as the Curriculum Director for English, helping to set up a traditional subject in a new technology school. We worked alongside Engineering and Creative and Digital Media to ensure our curriculum was STEM based and directly linked to projects and employers. From this, I moved into the role of Assistant Principal for Teaching and Learning and helped shape the Teaching and Learning policy around Rosenshine’s Principles of Instruction. After two years, I have now moved over to Data and Assessment where I look at supporting KS4 in moving towards their final grades.

The UTC is a family – both with staff and students. Building a school from the ground up, and going through the challenges we have, has only knit the staff closer together. It is through this that we have our impact on students: not only through grades and attainment but through attitudes and expectations. The students know we will support them whole heartedly."

"My journey at the UTC started before the building was completed and we were faced with the outbreak of COVID.

My DUTC journey started in the Engineering department as a lead teacher. We were a department of 3 with 2-year groups. Over the last 2 years the UTC has expanded with staff and students and as we have grown, so have I as a teacher and learnt so much through the development of DUTC. Year 2 of my journey was a quick change into acting CD due to unforeseen circumstances and was appointed as CD within the year. This was a crash course into middle leadership but was supported every step of the way through a supportive staff body and SLT Team, line manager and principal. The staff body and team at DUTC are like no other I have experienced; staff are so passionate about their specialisms and have bought into the vision and ethos of weaving our employer and industry experts into our everyday curriculum. I couldn’t have gone on this journey without such a supportive Engineering team and DUTC team. As we have started our third year, we are proud to be bursting at the seams at full capacity with a full 5-year groups with applications still coming in!. I am happy to be starting the new academic year ass an associate assistant principal with a focus on personal development with a team of 9 engineering staff. I always knew that this move to DUTC would be something exciting, new and different, but I never imagined the opportunities I have been given here at DUTC. I am proud to work here and proud of what we as a team have achieved over the last 3 years.

I love working at DUTC because of the staff that I work with, but also for my subject areas and specialism, it is so important that we are recognised and supported in our subject area which has not always been the case in some of our previous schools. The engineering team because of this support, have been allowed to design a curriculum weaved with employers, enriching the students with different still sets, software and aspirations. We have and will continue to see our students thrive here."
