"I joined UTC in the 2020/2021 academic year and the prospect of helping create and deliver a career-focused curriculum to make learning link to the workplace really appealed to me. I've taught in 'regular' schools for almost 15 years before working at Doncaster UTC and I really wanted to be a part of a different model of education. Since joining, I've seen countless encounters for our learners with real world employers and I've seen the impact that this has had on not only day-to-day motivation but also the potential for social mobility amongst some of our most vulnerable students. Completely different to how learning is delivered in the other schools I've worked in. Linking students with employers and teaching skills with a direct link to the workplace can really light up young minds and switch them on to what they're doing and why they are doing it. There is also an amazing pastoral team at UTC and I've been impressed with the levels of care and personalised support that students across the age ranges receive and have access to."

"I joined Doncaster UTC when it first opened in September, 2020, having taught English at Hungerhill School for five years. Since then, I have taken on the roles of Lead Teacher, Curriculum Director for English and Associate Assistant Principal for Teaching and Learning. As part of my current role, I work closely with Middle and Senior Leaders to ensure quality first teaching across the UTC. What I particularly enjoy about working at the UTC is that our employer links are always willing to support. In English, we have worked with employers on projects relating to Smart Homes and Speaking and Listening tasks. This has added a "real world" dimension to our teaching and learning and has undoubtedly enriched the learning experience of our students."

"I started my UTC journey when the school opened (in the middle of the pandemic, in a building that wasn’t our own) and from the get-go it has been a fast-paced adventure! I knew Mr Rawson from my previous school – so I knew his expectations – to create the best UTC in the country.
I started my time at Doncaster UTC as the Curriculum Director for English, helping to set up a traditional subject in a new technology school. We worked alongside Engineering and Creative and Digital Media to ensure our curriculum was STEM based and directly linked to projects and employers. From this, I moved into the role of Assistant Principal for Teaching and Learning and helped shape the Teaching and Learning policy around Rosenshine’s Principles of Instruction. After two years, I have now moved over to Data and Assessment where I look at supporting KS4 in moving towards their final grades.
The UTC is a family – both with staff and students. Building a school from the ground up, and going through the challenges we have, has only knit the staff closer together. It is through this that we have our impact on students: not only through grades and attainment but through attitudes and expectations. The students know we will support them whole heartedly."
