To celebrate National Volunteer’s week we would like to share some of the great work our students participate in throughout the community.
Thomas has been volunteering for the St Johns Ambulance for the last 4 years. Last year he won the hearts of Doncaster volunteer of the year award. He has completed over 500 hours of service. He also gives up his time on a weekend to referee for his local football club, Adwick Park Rangers JFC. This week he also refereed a charity match in aid of Andy’s Man Club which was between two teams of coaches and parents of the Adwick Park Rangers club.
Brandon is training to be a martial arts instructor. He began volunteering after achieving his first black belt in 2019 by joining the STORM Team. This taught him the skills of positive reinforcement, encouragement and confidence building in the 4-6 year olds and the beginner classes, and also gave him his first opportunities to build his own confidence in teaching the younger age groups. Since then he was part of the first group of young people to complete the 4 year STORM course which then allowed him to join the instructor course which he hopes to complete and qualify as an assistant instructor before the end of the year. He has become an integral part of the Bentley ACMAC Team.
He volunteers in 5 classes per week but is also sometimes given opportunities to teach advanced and adult classes under supervision to further develop his skills.
All this experience has also led to him having paid work assisting at summer camps with his instructor.
