“Dame Rosie today (Friday 1 October 2021) visited Doncaster UTC on College Road to speak with 180 of their year 10 students aged 14/15.
Rosie gave a presentation on her passion for politics, her journey to becoming a Member of Parliament and the various roles she has held within Government and most recently as Deputy Speaker of the House of Commons. Students asked a number of questions about the role and how Parliament works. Dame Rosie said “It was great to have the opportunity to discuss Parliament and the roles within it with so many students. It is vital that our young people know about how our democracy works and to engage with them on such an important matter.”
Doncaster UTC’s Principal, Mr Garath Rawson said “Doncaster UTC aims to bring learning alive, ensuring that the knowledge students gain can be applied in the real world. Working with our employers and the universities we aim to ensure we are developing employees of the future. Having Dame Rosie’s visit to support our Citizenship curriculum will raise aspirations, whilst helping students apply their understanding to real life situations. ”
