Student Entitlement

Throughtout your time at the UTC you will have access to tailored careers sessions which will involve various guests, including Employers, Universities and other external educational providers.
All these sessions will be linked to the Gatsby Benchmarks.
 

 

Student Entitlements Year 9

• Students are encouraged to think about employability and which careers they may be interested in.
• Students start engaging with employers in their subject specialisms.
• Students are encouraged to access labour market information.
• Students begin to be introduced to DUTC Employer Partners and Associates.
• Students log into the online careers guidance platform START Careers.

Student Entitlements Year 10

• Students explore post 16 pathways and start to engage with schools, colleges and universities.
• Students will have a 1-1 careers guidance appointment to talk about their goals and aspirations.
• Students are encouraged to attend careers talks, fairs, college open days and taster days with employers.
• Students start to prepare a CV and find out how to apply for jobs.
• Students take part in a mock interview with an employer.
• Students complete work experience.
• Students continue to learn about apprenticeships.
• Students are encouraged to access labour market information.

Student Entitlements Year 11

• Students are supported with post 16 choices and encouraged to consider all their options including further study and apprenticeships.
• Students are encouraged to attend careers talks, fairs, college open days and taster days with employers.
• Parents will also be invited along to the above.
• Students are assisted further with CV writing and encouraged to have a completed a CV and covering letter.
• Students are kept up to date with post 16 deadlines, open evenings and careers fairs.
• Support will be given on results days to ensure smooth transition to their post 16 destination.
• Students will be provided with sessions on how to apply for an apprenticeship

 

STUDENT ENTITLEMENTS KEY STAGE 5

Student Entitlement Year 12

• Students explore post 18 pathways and transition.
• Students will engage with a range of local and national employers in their subject specialist fields.
• Students will attend careers fairs with colleges and universities.
• Students start CV and cover letter writing.
• All students will have a 1-1 careers guidance interview with a qualified careers adviser.
• Students will complete work experience either virtually or in the workplace.
• Students will take part in mock interviews with an employer.
• Students will learn about the local jobs market and national options also.
• Students will build upon apprenticeship awareness sessions and learn how to apply.
• Students will be introduced to how to apply to university, making decisions, offers and finance talks.
• Students will complete a skills audit using online careers guidance platforms.

Student Entitlement Year 13

• Students are supported with post 18 choices and encouraged to look at all opportunities available and have a back-up plan.
• Students will review their careers action plan which was developed in Y12 with the careers adviser.
• Students are encouraged to attend careers talks, fairs, and university open days etc.
• Continued support with personal statements and applications to university.
• Continued support for students' applications for jobs and apprenticeships.
• Support will be given to ensure a smooth transition to their post 18 pathway.
